My reflection
In the past, when I had no idea how to pronounce the words, GT is the most useful tools as I encountered this trouble. I think GT is suitable for English beginner or self learner, however; it is definitely not enough only to use GT to be proficiency in English. It is better to learn multi-application to improve one’s English ability if this course would be conducted in the next semester. By the way, as I use GT to translate the video 2, I would put the word or phrase separately based on its structure to increase its rate of correctness. All results generated from GT are not exactly correct in detail and we have to adjust some words or phrase. Therefore, teacher’s feedback and peer’s discussion are necessary. I can hear lots of feedback and learn from the mistakes in a short time. This part is my favorite one because changing opinion is so funny. But I find that as I translate the Chinese sentence “ 千算萬算,算不到老天爺根本不想讓他算”, the result is “ No matter how hard you count, God doesn't want him to count at all.” GT cannot translate correctly if the sentence meaning contents a lot of meanings of Chinese culture. But the benefit is I can learn the real meaning in English version is “As a computer engineer, he was good at counting, but God didn't want him so in terms of tea agriculture. “ I should add the connection between author’s background and his skills to rationalize its meaning. The same situation happened as I translate the word “招親”. English version"recruit relatives" cannot express exact meaning because "wife" should be conveyed by the translators. It is better if peer's discussion give me more ideas to translate it. I think even if GT went something wrong, it is still helpful to translate countless words into English version in a short time. This application saves lots of time for a translator and give me ideas to adjust the transcription more accurately. All in all, GT offer alternative words and I can learn how to express the most exactly meaning under its assistant. Most importantly, AI save lots of time and effort compared with human translation. If I could, I would use GT to speed up translation jobs as long as opportunities is coming.
